You’re a Little Short to be a Stormtrooper: Hasbro Unveils 6-inch Star Wars Figures

Finally realizing that the kids that bought their toys in the 80s are now adults that are STILL buying toys (in the…aughts? …teens? What the hell do we call this decade?); Hasbro has announced that they’re going to be releasing an adult collector line of “Star Wars” figures.

The Black Series will clock in at 6-inches and feature better details and articulation than the (increasingly unarticulated) 3.75-inch figs. And unlike those Hot Toys figures you see coming out of Japan, these will only set you back $20 instead of $200. Yay for mass marketing! The first wave will include X-Wing Luke, R2-D2, Darth Maul (grumble), and an Imperial Sandtrooper.

All we’ve seen so far is Luke; but damn if this isn’t the prettiest Luke action figure I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

Just like Beggar's Canyon back home!

Just like Beggar’s Canyon back home!

If the Sandtrooper looks half as good, I’m buying an entire troop. Release Dewbacks to go with them and I’ll buy a freaking platoon.

Greatest Shirt of All Time

Is this the greatest shirt of all time? You could say “No.”

…you’d be wrong; but you could still say it.

8DTronIt’s available over at Ript for less than 24 hours. I suggest you don’t tarry.

In Space, No One Can Hear You Build

OK, I wasn’t going to post YET ANOTHER awesome LEGO build so soon after the amazing Firefly from the other day; but, but…just look!

Intrepid builder Mihe Stonee didn’t just build a USCSS Nostromo, they built the USCSS Nostromo; going so far as to reference original blueprint drawings and the actual model from “Alien.” It’s absolutely gorgeous and deserves to be ogled from every possible angle. I’m in awe. Click here for more detailed shots of the completed work.

The Threeway: Top 3 ThinkGeek T-Shirts (Janie’s Take)

If I’m not mistaken, this week’s Threeway came about since the guys figured it would 3smallmake my “loins hum like a tuning fork.”  And oh, they weren’t wrong.

ThinkGeek = wondrous

ThinkGeek + apparel = loin-humming fantasticalness

A t-shirt (Stay Calm and STFU) made my Top 3 last week. But I had no problem finding three more for this week, I just let my humming loins guide me.

geek_inside_maternity#3: As the token gal in our little group, I feel like I need to represent the women and the wee-ones. So this. I totally would’ve worn this back in my baby-making days. (Of course, if you see me in it now, it’s referring to a geeky alien). Continue reading

The Threeway: Top 3 ThinkGeek T-Shirts (Anthony’s Take)

3smallNot content to merely flirt around with ThinkGeek’s prodigious t-shirt catalog last week; we decided we needed a little more time to really dive in and pick out the gems. Made of cotton. Cotton gems, then. Like lint balls. Only…geeky…

On with the shirts!

d3e6_interesting#3: I had to include at least one “Firefly” shirt. Since I actually owned the “Curse your sudden, but inevitable betrayal” model at one point, I figured I should include this, more obscure, but equally delicious, Wash reference. Be a leaf on the wind when you wear it. Continue reading

Keep Buildin’

Well if this isn’t the shiniest gorram LEGO set in all the rutting ‘verse, I don’t know what is. Sadly LEGO, denied this brilliant Firefly CUUSOO project; but the intrepid builder has teamed up with Etadyne to offer it to the masses. It’ll set you back a fair bit of coin; but considering the piece count and the stellar design (hur, hur, hur), it’s worth it if you’re a fan of LEGO or Firefly! Check out all the interior details at the project’s home page. All we need now are some custom crew minifigs.

Update: Well holy shit – they DO have the minifigs! That’s about the cutest little Jayne ever.

The Threeway: Top 3 ThinkGeek Products (Anthony’s Take)

Me and ThinkGeek go way back. It was there that I cut my teeth on my burgeoning t-shirt addiction (sad was the day when the 1-Up Mushroom shirt finally gave up the ghost and was relegated to car-drying duty). But quickly I learned that is a veritable Bag of Holding (in canvas or dragon skin) for all those geeky items that you don’t ever really need; but you really need. Looking for last minute plush microbes for the kid’s stockings? ThinkGeek’s got it. Need chopsticks fashioned after Alien Chestbursters? TG has got you covered. Want to dress up like Slave Leia and pose provocatively on a Wampa-skin rug? Amazingly, the helper monkeys have anticipated your kink and have exactly what you need.

I could make a list based on the t-shirts alone (Ed Note: next week’s Threeway, we’re totally doing this); but I decided to branch out and take a deeper look into the catalog. Of course, as my colleagues have noted, nearly every page is going to have something you want. These just happened to tweak the brain chemistry tonight. Continue reading

The Threeway: Top 3 ThinkGeek Products (Janie’s Take)

I’ve been begging the guys to do this Threeway for weeks. I love more than almost anything in the world. Most days I would gladly trade my children for any given t-shirt on the site. I would trade my husband for almost all the Firefly items.

I should send my family there to shop for me for Christmas since they could randomly pick out almost anything on the entire site and it would probably be perfect for me. Don’t tell anyone, but I rank my friends into: casual, close, and “I love you –  I know” categories based on how many of the Think Geek jokes they would get/appreciate.

Picking just three items  was hard. Continue reading

The Threeway: Top 3 ThinkGeek Products (Adam’s Take) is wonderland. Every page holds an image of a product that I *must* have. Every single page. To prove this to myself – I just clicked on the “Doctor Who” page. I’m not even a Who fan – but I would totally love the heat changing TARDIS coffee mug. And that board game looks interesting as well. Thus, this week’s topic is hard. How can I narrow down the Top 3 products on their site? I can probably find three in the “Star Wars” section alone. Let alone food. And caffeinated soap? I do so want to try that someday.

BTW – off topic here for a second, but as I surf through the site this has me perplexed – why does categorize Bacon and Zombies together? They don’t even have any combiner zombie bacon ideas. Like a zombie-fied wild boar. They have a Star Trek Zombie shirt – why isn’t that a dual category? What purpose does this serve? Do zombies secretly love bacon as well?

Any rate, on with the Countdown: Continue reading

The Threeway: Top 3 Things Missing From My Geek Resume (Adam’s Take)

I know I’m a geek. I’m the guy everyone calls when they get that “Star Trek” question in trivia. Need to know the lyrics to the “Silver Spoons” theme song? I’ll sing it to you. Trying desperately to remember which 80s robot with an acronym name was on the show “Small Wonder?” I can give you the breakdown (and remind you of the one from “D.A.R.Y.L.” as well).

But, even I have gaps in the geek resume. It’s like that scene in “Jurassic Park” where they tell you what DNA is – and how there were missing pieces in the Dino Code. If Seth Green or Chris Hardwick are the geek gods, then I’m the DNA offshoot. Instead of a complete code, I meshed in extra “Star Wars” novels or something. Hell, I hadn’t even seen all of “Wizard of Oz” until a few years ago.

So, what’s missing? Continue reading
