Announcing! Star Trek Into Darkness

Not sure why this is an “announcement” and not a teaser, but whatever. The first 1 minute, edited for showcase before feature films, featuring a blatant rip off of the “Inception” music (to go with the blatant ripoff of the “Dark Knight” poster) for “Star Trek Into Darkness” has been thrust upon us. What does JJ and the gang have in store for us?

Some thoughts:

  • I love (LOVE) the shot of the blond chick screaming (and the sound extending for a few seconds). I’ve watched the trailer a few times and it gets me every time.
  • I guess we are getting an Enterprise water landing? Maybe someone will edit in a clip of Data saying he can be used as a floatation device from “Insurrection.” (Yeah, I just made an “Insurrection” reference. Take that nerdlings!)
  • Benedict Cumberbatch does great voice over. Maybe he can be the next Morgan Freeman. I love the “So, shall we begin” at the end of the trailer. Gives it a good tone to finish on.
  • The big question is who is Benedict Cumberbatch playing? The geek money is on Kahn. Hard to believe that JJ could keep that big of a secret though. I hope it isn’t Kahn. I’d rather see this movie live on its own. The Next Gen crew tried their Kahn/”Star Trek II” remake with “Nemesis” and that didn’t work out too well.

  1. Awesome trailer. I love everything about this iteration of Star Trek and it looks like we’re getting even more of the good stuff.

What’s nice is that we’re spending some time on Earth. Trek, understandably so, has always focused outward to the stars; but the history that led to an interplanetary Federation and how that had to have affected Earth must be fascinating.

Personally, I hope Cumberbatch is Kahn. He was probably the only villain that ever matched Kirk in the original movies and I really want to see that dynamic again.

But, a question. Who the Hell is this Cumberbatch guy and why is everyone wringing out their panties over him?

    • I want to see Star Trek. Not Earth Trek. The history of the Federation isn’t that fascinating. Enterprise taught us that.

Cumberbatch plays Sherlock Holmes on the BBC “Sherlock.” It’s awesome. He’s awesome. Honestly, you destroy your current geek cred not seeing it (much less not knowing it). Go back and play with your transformers.

      • Wow, someone pissed in your Vulcan-Os this morning.

In better hands, there’s a good story there. I have faith…

      • And I keep meaning to see “Sherlock” at some point. It’s in the Netflix queue.

…but season 2 of “Transformers: Prime” just dropped on Netflix.

      • There is a good story with Kahn. But do you really think the writers behind the Transformers series (and Cowboys and Aliens) are the ones to tell it?
